New pedestrian crossings in town
A look at two upgraded pedestrian crossings in Saxonville, at the McAuliffe branch library and Potter Road/Elm Street.
- Pedestrian crossing is hard to miss here
- The new pedestrian crossing is a bit more visible than the old one
- By having the sidewalk jut out and narrow the street, this offers a visual cue to drivers that something “unusual” should be expected
- Another view of the crossing
- The brick crosswalk is more visible – and more permanent – than traditional yellow road markers.

As a bike commuter, I also love the fact that the new Potter/Elm intersection has sensors for bikes to be on to make the lights change. Bravo!
